Gulizindan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Gulizindan, Tajikistan. G.K. Salibaev in 1989 (Decision of the Paleogene System Commission of Central Asia RMSK, 1989). Stratotype in the area of the village of Gulizindan. The name of this formation is not used in the territory of Uzbekistan.
Synonym: Gulizindanskaya Svita, Гулизинданская св., Turkestan Fm.
Lithology and Thickness
Gray, greenish-gray, bluish-gray, silty (aleuritic), calcareous clays. Up to 190 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably overlies the Alai Fm
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Rishtan Fm or with erosion by Neogene deposits.
Regional extent
Southwestern Gissar (Baysun, Sherabad, Pashkurt District), Mt. Babatag. To the east, the upper part of the suite is facially replaced by limestones and clays of the Rishtan Fm.

Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Chlamys vialovi Korob., Liostrea kokkanensis Sok., Fatina böhmi Vial., Lucina menardi Desh.; foraminifera - Haplophragmoides orfaensis Rod., Gaudryina superturkestanica N. Byk., Discorbis ferganensis N. Byk., Cibicides artemi N. Byk., Pseudohastigerina micra (Cole.), Acarinina rolundimarginata Subb.; ostracods - Cytherella caucasica Schn., C. mirusa Ros., Clitrocythe- ridea scrobiculata Mand., Cytheridea tonsa Mand:, Loxoconcha turridula Mand.; radiolarians - Cenosphaera magnifica Tsced., C. levis Moks., Cenogiscus lenticularis Lipm., Sethocyrtis tamdiensis Lipm. and others.
